Log Apple Pay payments

Every time you pay with Apple Pay (the iPhone tap on a terminal), Clatri can pick up the merchant, amount and card and drop them into your chat as a payment card. The agent books them the same way it does a forwarded email: you type nothing at the register.

You need one shortcut in the iOS Shortcuts app. Not one per card, and not one for expenses plus one for income. Wallet only sees payments (NFC taps). Payroll, transfers or a physical card without Apple Pay do not go through here.

Booking the expense requires an active subscription. Without a plan the shortcut still runs and leaves a chat notice (with the plans); it does not book the payment.

What Apple Pay means here

Apple Pay is not your card's complete transaction history. It is a secure way to pay with a Wallet card using a device-specific virtual number. Apple Pay also works inside apps and on the web, but this automation is narrower: its trigger is When I tap, meaning that you present a selected Wallet card to a contactless reader.

Therefore, seeing a purchase in Wallet does not mean that Clatri will capture it. Some banks can show physical-card or connected-account activity in Wallet, but that history does not trigger the automation. Clatri receives the tap event; it does not monitor every transaction in your bank account.

This flow only records money going out as a result of that NFC tap. It does not capture income because payroll, an incoming transfer, or a refund does not involve tapping a card to pay. It also does not automatically capture subscriptions, direct debits, or later merchant-initiated charges.

What you need

  • An iPhone on iOS 17 or later with at least one card in Wallet.
  • Clatri with an active subscription.
  • Your Clatri cards with their last 4 digits, so the payment lands in the entity where that card is registered. If the same ending exists in Personal and Business, Clatri does not guess and asks you to resolve it in chat.

1. Create the automation (once)

The app is Shortcuts. It ships with the iPhone.

  1. Open ShortcutsAutomation tab → +.

  2. Choose Transaction (on iOS 26 it is labeled Wallet), under Wallet and Apple Pay.

  3. Under When I tap, leave all cards (or pick only the ones you want to track). Do not filter by merchant.

  4. At the bottom: Run Immediately. Turn off Notify When Run — Clatri notifies you in chat.

  5. NextNew Blank Automation (or Create New Shortcut).

  6. Add ActionApps tab → ClatriLog Wallet payment.

  7. Tap each field on the action and assign it from Shortcut Input. Then tap that variable again and pick the property:

    Clatri fieldShortcut Input property
AmountCurrency Amount (the field is already a money amount)
    MerchantName
CardPayment Method / Card or Pass

Do not add a separate currency. Clatri automatically reads the ISO code included in Amount. The 0 COP shown on a newly added action is Shortcuts' local example; it disappears when the field is connected to the transaction amount.

If you drop the whole transaction object into a field, Shortcuts fails with Conversion Error. You must pick the property.

  8. Done. You do not need to open Clatri each time you pay.

2. Try it

Make a small Apple Pay purchase, such as buying a coffee.

Within a few seconds the chat for the entity where the card is registered shows a payment card: merchant, amount, card and time. The agent books it and notifies you. If it cannot identify the card unambiguously, it does not guess another entity and asks you to resolve it.

What it captures and what it does not

Clatri capturesClatri does not capture
Contactless payments made by holding an iPhone or Apple Watch near a terminalPurchases with the physical card: chip, swipe, or the card's own contactless feature
Amount, currency, merchant, and payment method when Wallet provides themApple Pay inside apps, Safari, or other websites
Payments from any card selected in the same automationPurchases made by typing or using a saved card number
Expenses greater than zero initiated by the tapSubscriptions, direct debits, and later merchant-initiated charges
Income, refunds, payroll, transfers, withdrawals, or cash
Activity that only appears in bank history or a connected account in Wallet

In other words: Apple Pay can be used in person or digitally, but this shortcut only captures in-person NFC taps. Use open banking, statements, email, or chat to complete the rest of a card's activity.

What about Google Wallet on Android?

There is currently no equivalent Android automation that lets Clatri receive every Google Wallet payment. Android routes payment NFC taps to the app holding the default wallet role; it does not provide a third-party finance app with an iOS Shortcuts-style transaction trigger. The Google Pay API lets a merchant accept payment inside its own app; it does not expose purchases the user makes with other merchants.

Clatri therefore does not try to replace Google Wallet or monitor its payments. On Android, use open banking, statements, email, or chat. Official references: Android's Wallet role and the Google Pay merchant flow.

If it does not run

  • Chat shows plans and “I can't record this payment” → renew in Settings → Subscription. The shortcut stays; the next tap is booked.
  • Nothing after a payment → was it Apple Pay, not the plastic card? Is the automation set to Run Immediately? Does Wallet have mobile data on (Settings → Apps → Wallet)?
  • Conversion Error in Shortcuts → open the action and remap each field to a property of the input (Amount, Name…), not the whole transaction.
  • Clatri could not choose an entity → check that card’s last 4. If the same ending exists in Personal and Business, fix the duplicate registration or resolve it in chat.
  • You do not see “Log Wallet payment” → open Clatri once (iOS registers actions on launch) and search again in Shortcuts → Apps → Clatri.
